Essential Steps:

Visa Type: Japan offers various types of visas but for tourism purposes, Indians typically require a Temporary Visitor Visa (Single or Multiple Entry).

Appointment & Application: Submit your application through VFS Global, the official partner of the Japanese Embassy in India. Book an appointment on their website (https://visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/jpn/) and download the visa application form from the Japanese Embassy website (https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/index.html).

Required Documents: Ensure you have the following documents ready:

• Original passport (Valid for 6 months) + Old passports (if any).
• 1 Photocopy of passport biopage (first & last).
• 3 Colour photographs 2 x 2 inch, white background, matte finish, 70% face cover, matte finish, 70% face cover, without specs, ears visible (avoid light shade attire for photo).
• Typed Visa Application form with signature.
• Typed cover letter in provided format stating name, passport details, purpose of travel, detailed travel itinerary day wise  (Printed on Company Letter Head if Self Employed with company stamp / Plain Paper if Employed/Retired);
• Confirmed Hotel Accommodations with all traveller name reflecting on booking (Pay at the hotel booking is accepted)
• Confirm Flight Tickets.
• Tour Itinerary.
• Latest 6 months bank statement duly signed and stamped by bank reflecting balance of 1,50,000/-per person
• IT Returns Acknowledgement mandatory for the last 3 years.
• Self employed ; Business registration proof
• Original leave letter from the company with stamp & sign & pay slip for 3 months.
• Child: need student id card copy and Original Noc letter from the school.
• Applicants travelling to a third country before and after travelling to japan need to submit a third countries visa copy.
• Proof of Relationship, incase the applicant is accompanied by any dependant, i.e. Passport copy, Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate.
• Additional Documents: Depending on your circumstances, additional documents like travel insurance, proof of relationships with family in Japan, etc., might be required.
  
  

Fees: The current Temporary Visitor Visa fee (as of February 2024) is ₹500 for single or multiple entries and ₹50 for transit visas plus service charges, courier fees and taxes. Payment is typically made online during appointment booking.

Submission and Processing: Submit your documents at the designated VFS Global centre on your appointment date. Processing time usually takes around 4 working days, but it's advisable to plan ahead and apply well before your travel date.

Duration:

Single Entry Visa: Allows one entry and stay up to 90 days.
Multiple Entry Visa: Allows multiple entries within a specific period (usually 3 or 5 years), with each stay not exceeding 90 days.
